I begin each day with RPM: Rise, pee, meditate, in other words, sit with the stillness of mantra meditation before I engage in any other activity. Then I put on music, make coffee and sit in my sunrise chaise. It is deep purple with spirals and large enough for a friend. I usually first seek inspiration from reading or experiencing the expression of other peoples creativity. The east facing window pours in sunshine. I am on a corner of one of the main Portland bike routes. Our city consistently gets rated first or second in the US for being bike friendly and the number of people using bikes as a regular mode of transportation. I live on an extra wide street with limited access to cars and gentle speed bumps. Many times more bikes than cars go by every day. Some mornings I make a different choice. After RPM I will get on my bike, go for a ride and end up at one of my favorite coffee shops. Where I will sit with coffee and my computer. Still expansive space... Yet a different energy. There is an added stimulation to the presence of other people and surrounding conversations. I actually find that a helpful environment if I want to work on something more focused. More with a direct goal. Although here in the middle of summer... I seem to be preferring the sun filled warmth of my chaise and the company of my lusciously lounging cats. I cherish morning space. The ability to slowly ease into my day. To allow my thoughts and reflections the space to simmer. To allow for inspiration and creativity. I cherish this time and have such Gratitude that it is a regular possibility. I notice the difference in my Spirit when I go too long of a period where 'busy and engaged' are more frequent. I know allowing my Heart & Spirit the time to simply Be... Feeds my Soul. Ahhhhh... Yes!
